Stronger Together

One of our warm up routines is to balance on one foot. It’s a little challenging for most of us. It’s much easier though when you make a circle and support each other. Back before Covid, when we could touch, we would form a support circle to demonstrate how much more stable we are together versus individually.

No one can be successful without help.

Here are just last week’s examples of when I reached out for support from my board, mentors, local businesses, and national organizations/experts.

  • I picked up more than 100 pairs of donated shoes from Fleet Feet Cleveland; We simply couldn’t afford to give away as many issues as we do without this kind of support.

  • My board and I talked for more than two hours yesterday discussing and deciding important issues for our group.

I was in touch with the following groups/people to support each other’s missions to help people in recovery:

  • Team Herren Project to learn about their efforts in the recovery community.

  • Strides in Recovery to discuss training our respective mentors.

  • Dr John Ratey to discuss his upcoming zoom seminar for our mentors to educate us on “Recovery through exercise”

  • Runners 4 Recovery to support their recent virtual event

Each one of us in recovery needs a support circle; everyone does. We all need help from time to time. Surround yourselves with solid people (not perfect) but people willing to come alongside to support you as you support them. It takes humility to ask for help. It takes wisdom to choose your support network, it takes trust to lean on them. But the end result is glorious. We are indeed stronger together.
